A 4-6 week fitness & wellness program for boys and girls grades 6-8
Running - Nutrition - Strength - Overall Wellness
Club Tread® is tread HAPPY®’s running fitness program for middle school girls and boys of all abilities. It was developed by former University of Virginia track and field runner Chelsea Ley in collaboration with tread founders and former teachers Claire Mitchell and Sara Currier. Now in its second year, Club Tread has trained over 100 kids for all different types of local races: cross country, road, and trail races.
The program is so much more than just the physical training, however. The innovative team-focused curriculum not only engages kids with the sport of running, and helps them persist in the sport, but also bolsters their self-confidence and helps them to improve skills such as time management and leadership. Many of the program participants who perhaps would not have pursued further athletics confidently go on to run in high school or participate in other team-based sports. This invaluable experience is something we have proudly developed and fostered while keeping costs low for families: the price of program participation breaks down to about $15 per one hour session.
Specifically the program includes:
Coaching by former UVA Track & Field athletes + teacher education students
1-hour team practices three times a week set around school schedule (or determined with school administration prior to program)
Water & snacks for practices
Community & University guest speakers once a week
Team singlet or long-sleeve team uniform
Opportunity to train for a specific race as a team at end or throughout the program
